PIC-SER Documentation Page


Overview

PIC-SER is a project of the Internet2 Presence and Integrated Communications Working Group. It is a Presence service offered to a limited group of Internet2 member universities and affiliates for the purpose of campus trials. The PIC-SER package is composed of SIP/SIMPLE based server and client software and related documentation and support. The goals of PIC-SER are to help advance the idea and use of presence-based technologies, in order to promote software interoperability and campus participation in the world of real-time communications.

The member universities participating in the trial are Columbia University, Florida State University, i2CAT/Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, MIT, UCLA, University of Pennsylvania, and Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico.

The server software in the package is the open source SIP Express Router (SER) with Presence Agent (PA) module support.

The client software in the package are the Wave Three Session client and the Xten eyeBeam client.

Additional client support is available through the use of an open source command-line presence user agent pua.pl.
