You will need at least one partner to test presence. EyeBeam uses your server as a presence agent. Session does peer-to-peer presence but will use your server when you are testing between Session and EyeBeam registered clients.
Verify presence settings - right click and choose Settings, choose your account, choose Presence and set Presence Mode to Presence Agent, set Refresh Interval to 86400 seconds. Do not set anything else at this point in time.
Ask your testing partner to add you to his/her contact list (i.e., the watcher's contact list) if you aren't there already. Verify that you show up as green/Available in the watcher's contact list
Change presence - click on the green avatar under Calls & Contacts and change status fromavailable to Busy and verify with a partner that it was published on the watcher's contact list
Add a new presence status message - click on your status, choose New Status Message and enter something new, e.g. your current location. Change your presence to your new status message and verify with a partner that it was published on the watcher's contact list
Use the Diagnostic Log to examine outgoing and incoming SIP messages. Right click on the client and choose Diagnostic Log.
Right click on client and choose Privacy Management and Add to add a new contact. Then make sure full access is allowed and save the entry. You can change it later to filter certain communications. Under Settings - User Interface - Status, you can set when your presence automatically changes to Away, and also change the custom messages and appearances.
If a person in your contact list shows up as gray (Offline), try deleting and readding that person from your contact list, and or try disabling the account and re-enabling the account. Look for messages in the Diagnostic Log that show whether you have exchanged and acknowledged SUBSCRIBE SIP messages with the contact - you must be subscribed to each other's presence. Look for other errors and verify that when you change your presence that it is actually sending a message to the correct To: address for your contact.
Ask your testing partner to add you to his/her contact list (i.e., the watcher's contact list) if you aren't there already. Verify that you show up as green/Available in the watcher's contact list
Change presence - choose Edit - Presence State - and change status from available to Busy and verify with a partner that it was published on the watcher's contact list
Add a new presence status message - choose Edit - Presence State - choose CustomMessages and enter something new, e.g. your current location. Choose Allow IncomingAudio/Video/Messages to make this an Online appearance and choose Messages Only to make this a Busy appearance. Change your presence to your new custom message and verify with a partner that it was published on the watcher's contact list
Choose Edit - Preferences - Privacy tab and make sure it is set to "Alert me when unknown users request presence" or "Automatically allow presence for unknown users". You can change it later to do user Allow vs. Block. Choose Actions - Show Watchers to see a list of your current watchers.
Try all of the steps above while you are registered to your server with one client, and your testing partner is registered with another client.
